Tinubu: They are planning to arrest me – El-Rufai cries out

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged plans by certain individuals to orchestrate his arrest and detention, asserting that he has no intention of fleeing the country.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, El-Rufai revealed that his adversaries are attempting to force him into self-imposed exile through intimidation and threats.
Responding to a supporter, Imran Wakili, regarding the alleged plot, El-Rufai disclosed that he is currently in Egypt but plans to return to Nigeria before February 20.
“I will spend more time in Nigeria than ever before,” El-Rufai wrote, adding, “They want me to go on self-imposed exile, but I refuse to yield.”
He further noted that this is not his first encounter with intimidation tactics, as he had been arrested and detained three times in the past for expressing dissent against previous administrations.
“There is always a morning after arrest, detention, or torture. Political life continues,” he remarked, emphasizing that he fears no mortal but Allah.
El-Rufai also stated that his return to Nigeria is tied to his planned attendance at the launch of former President Ibrahim Babangida’s memoirs on February 20.
The former governor’s remarks come amid a growing rift with supporters of President Bola Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). El-Rufai recently criticized the party’s lack of internal democracy, noting that key party organs had not convened in the past two years.
Despite the alleged threats, El-Rufai remains resolute, declaring, “We depend on no one but Allah. We always hope for the best but plan for the worst.”
