Tinubu under pressure to resign as president

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the presidential running mate of the Labour Party (LP), has made a bold call for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima. He has suggested that Senate President Godswill Akpabio should conduct another presidential election following their resignations.

Baba-Ahmed conveyed his stance during an interview on Arise Television, where he expressed his unwavering belief that Tinubu and Shettima were fraudulently sworn in after the 2023 presidential election. He emphasized that the LP would not cooperate with what he perceives as an illegitimate government.

In his own words, “Can Tinubu and Shettima just resign and let the Senate President conduct another election? They were fraudulently sworn in, and we will not work with an illegitimate government. If it is not constitutional, we are not touching it.”

Baba-Ahmed’s bold statement comes in the wake of a press conference by the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi. During the conference, Obi accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Supreme Court of incompetence in handling election matters, further highlighting the party’s dissatisfaction with the electoral process.
