Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has asserted that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who criticize him will not find peace, as their “conscience won’t allow them to sleep.”
El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made this remark on Monday while addressing commendations for his pivotal role in advocating for the rotation of power to the South during the APC’s 2023 presidential primary.
He explained that his support for a Southern presidency was driven by a sense of responsibility to God, the nation, and the party, and not by personal aspirations.
“We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience, and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well,” El-Rufai wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
His statement came in response to comments by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who lauded El-Rufai and other APC governors for prioritizing national unity over personal ambitions by supporting the zoning of the presidency to the South.
Makinde specifically acknowledged the contributions of El-Rufai and governors from Jigawa, Kogi, and Yobe states, praising their sacrifices for the country’s stability.
“I must give kudos to governors on the platform of APC… for the unity of this country, they sacrificed their ambition,” Makinde said.
El-Rufai also referred to a statement by APC chieftain Ayekooto Akindele, who commended him for thwarting political strategies aimed at dividing the nation along ethnic and religious lines ahead of the APC presidential primaries.
