U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado has decided to postpone an order mandating Chicago State University (CSU) to release specific academic records of Bola Tinubu, the current President of Nigeria.
This decision comes after Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert had initially directed CSU to provide the documents by the end of Thursday. However, during an urgent hearing on Thursday, as reported by CBS News, Judge Maldonado instructed both parties’ attorneys to submit additional arguments by the following Thursday.
The legal team representing the Nigerian President contended that Gilbert’s ruling needed a thorough review by a district judge. Judge Maldonado accepted their request and mentioned her intention to make a prompt ruling after this review.
“I will have a busy weekend. The issue revolves around process and rules. I’m someone who abides by rules; that’s why I’m a judge. This case is highly intricate, and I understand the gravity of the situation. My priority is to ensure accuracy,” she affirmed.
A recap by DAILY POST shows that Tinubu had filed an Emergency Motion requesting the Chicago Court to defer the release of his academic records until at least Monday, September 25th.
The Chicago Court had initially instructed CSU to furnish all records related to Tinubu’s academic tenure to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within a two-day window. Atiku maintains that Tinubu’s claim of graduating from Chicago State University is unfounded. Subsequently, he filed an application seeking the documents to substantiate his assertion that the Nigerian leader was ineligible to run for the presidential election during the stated period.
