Tinubu’s ministerial list: Profile of Ben Ayade

Ben Ayade is a Nigerian politician and academic who served as the Governor of Cross River State, Nigeria. Born on March 2, 1968, in Obudu, Cross River State, he has had a career that spans academia, business, and politics.

Educational Background: Ben Ayade holds a Bachelor of Microbiology degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria. He furthered his studies and obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Academic Career: Before delving into politics, Ben Ayade had a successful academic career. He worked as a lecturer and professor at several universities, including Delta State University and Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). His expertise lies in the field of environmental microbiology.

Political Career: Ben Ayade ventured into politics and joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In 2015, he contested in the gubernatorial election in Cross River State and emerged as the Governor-elect. He was re-elected for a second term in 2019.

Governorship and Achievements: As the Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade pursued various developmental projects and initiatives. He focused on infrastructure development, particularly in the areas of road construction and industrialization. His administration launched the “Project Green Carnival,” which aimed to boost the state’s economy through agriculture and tourism.

Ayade was also known for his “superhighway” project, an ambitious infrastructure project intended to link Cross River State to neighboring states. However, the project was met with controversies and criticism due to its environmental impact on the state’s rainforest.

Political Party Switch: In May 2021, Ben Ayade defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His move to the ruling party was seen as significant for both Cross River State and national politics.
