Tiv resident killed, policeman injured as Fulani militias invade Kadarko community
Tension has gripped Rest House in Kadarko, Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following a late-night attack by suspected Fulani militias that left one Tiv resident dead and a mobile police officer injured.
The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, when the assailants invaded the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and sending residents fleeing in panic.
The victim, a Tiv man identified as Mr. Nyianshima, popularly known as “Iron Money,” was killed in the onslaught, while a mobile police officer stationed at a nearby checkpoint sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment.
Locals say the swift intervention of security operatives at the checkpoint helped contain the situation and avert further bloodshed.
“When the gunshots started, people woke up in fear and ran for their lives,” a local resident recounted. “The security men faced the attackers, giving people a chance to escape.”
The latest violence has reignited concerns among Tiv communities in Nasarawa State, who allege they are being deliberately targeted in retaliation for clashes involving Fulani herders and security agents in neighbouring Benue.
“This is not the first time. Each time there is a clash involving Fulanis in Benue, they return to attack us here in Kadarko, Dooka, Angwan Yaara, and Dooga. Our farmlands have been taken over, and now we are being hunted,” one resident lamented.
There are growing fears of more violence as reports suggest the presence of armed groups camping within forested areas along the Nasarawa-Benue border.
In response, a community leader, Aondohemba, has urged the state government and security agencies to intervene promptly and protect vulnerable Tiv communities. “We cannot continue to live in fear in our own land,” he said.
As of press time, no official statement has been issued by authorities regarding the attack.
