Tolu Arokodare: Super Eagles striker opens up on personal growth, challenges
Tolu Arokodare, who has been named in the Super Eagles’ provisional squad for Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifiers this month, has shared insights into his personality and career ambitions.
The KRC Genk striker, who currently leads the Belgian Jupiler Pro League in goals, admitted that while he has made significant progress, he is not yet where he wants to be.
“Although I am certainly not where I want and need to be, if I am honest with myself, my professionalism is one of my biggest areas of improvement,” Arokodare told Het Belang van Limburg.
He also acknowledged that his tendency to be too open and eager to please everyone has been a personal challenge.
“I always think that everyone is my friend, but in the end, that is not true. I am always talking and trying to explain things, but I really need to learn to just keep my mouth shut sometimes,” he admitted.
Arokodare further reflected on how his expressiveness can sometimes backfire.
“I am convinced that my worst qualities would not be so noticeable if I spoke less often,” he said.
Despite working hard to adjust his approach, the 24-year-old noted that changing lifelong habits has not been easy.
“I have been very open my whole life, and it is extremely difficult to change something that has been part of me for so long.”
