Tragedy as bandits kill 10 in Wayam, Niger state community
Suspected armed bandits have killed 10 people in Wayam, a community in the Sabon-Gari District of Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, as bandits arrived on motorcycles, opening fire indiscriminately and creating widespread panic among residents.
Witnesses report that three individuals were killed instantly, while two women were reportedly slaughtered after resisting the bandits’ advances. Five others succumbed to gunshot wounds hours later. The attackers also set fire to homes and food supplies, causing extensive damage before leaving the community.
A source from Wayam, who requested anonymity, confirmed that residents have since fled, leaving the area largely deserted in the aftermath of the violence.
This incident follows a similar attack on Madaka, a nearby community, around six months ago, where about 60 people were killed.
Attempts to reach SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
