Tragedy as eight family members traveling for new year die in Imo motor accident

Eight individuals heading home in a Sienna car for New Year celebrations tragically lost their lives in a car crash at the Amanwozuzu junction in Imo State’s Ikeduru local government area.

The incident occurred around 3 pm on Friday, December 29, and brought sorrow to the community, as the victims were reportedly members of the same family.

Eyewitnesses at the accident scene recounted that the family’s father, who was transporting his wife and children in the Sienna car, collided with a stationary truck loaded with rods.

The gruesome sight unfolded as the rods pierced the victims’ bodies, causing all eight occupants to lose their lives instantly, according to an eyewitness.

Policemen and locals reportedly broke the vehicle in tears to extract the lifeless bodies of the family members.

As of the time of this report, officers from the Ikeduru local government area police division had taken the bodies to a morgue.

Divisional Police Officer Lucky Ahiole, a Chief Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ikeduru LGA, informed newsmen that the stationary truck was parked at the roadside when the Sienna vehicle driver collided with it.

Ahiole stated, “It is horrifying. Eight died, and we have taken them to a morgue. We had to break the Sienna vehicle to bring out the dead bodies. The rod pierced their eyes and bodies, and even the children died.”

Passersby have called on the police to investigate the owner or driver of the stationary truck loaded with rods to determine why it was blocking the road, contending that the tragedy could have been avoided if the truck driver had not parked on the road.
