The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into deep sorrow after the unexpected demise of two of its lawmakers, Aminu Ungoggo and Sarki Daneji, who were reported to have died just hours apart on Wednesday.

Hon. Ungoggo, who served as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, was the first to pass away. Reports indicate that he slumped and died at the Assembly premises following a short illness.

The development was officially confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai.

“The late Hon. Ungogo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement read.

Reacting to the loss, the Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Falgore, extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Ungogo’s constituency, and members of the legislature, describing the lawmaker’s death as a painful and irreplaceable loss.

“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most,” he said.

The late lawmaker was expected to be laid to rest later on Wednesday, with burial rites scheduled for 6:00pm at his hometown.
