An electrician identified simply as Dare has been electrocuted while fixing an electrical problem at Unity Estate, Aregbe, Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Dare, who was assisting a neighbor named Elijah in fixing the electrical fault, met his unfortunate end on Tuesday.
He had climbed an electrical pole during a power outage to work on the cables.
Tragically, as he commenced his work, the power supply was unexpectedly restored, leading to an electrocution, as reported by our correspondent.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, informed our correspondent that Dare had been contacted to replace a faulty cable on the pole.
Odutola further confirmed that Dare lost his life due to electrocution during the cable replacement process. The police will be conducting an investigation into the incident, particularly to determine whether the task he was hired to perform was meant for the trained personnel of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
“Dare was the electrician contacted to replace a bad cable and in the process he died.
“The Police is investigating to know if the job he was contacted to do was for only IBEDC who have more equipment to safe guard electrocution than ordinary electricians,” Odutola stated
