Liverpool are considering a move Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi before the transfer window closes.
Ndidi was part of the Leicester squad that got relegation from the Premier League last season, but has remained a regular starter for them in their first few matches of the new Championship campaign.
The 26-year-old could return to Premier League football in the final few days of the transfer window because according to the Independent, Ndidi ‘may be considered’ by Liverpool as a fourth midfield signing of the summer.
The new information follows a report from Football Insider, which did not mention Liverpool, but named Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest as suitors for Ndidi.
It was claimed that Ndidi ‘wants to leave’ Leicester after entering the final year of his contract there.
While his value has not been revealed, he is judged as a cheaper alternative to some of the other midfielders that clubs might be targeting.
In Liverpool’s case, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo have arrived at Anfield as new signings this summer.
Endo is the only natural defensive-minded option, but is still getting up to speed with how Jurgen Klopp wants him to play.
There is a feeling that Liverpool might need a more established replacement for Fabinho, but it has been hard for them to find the right option.
A recent report said they would no longer be looking to sign an out-and-out holding midfielder, but could still try to get a versatile option who could cover in the role.
Ndidi has been with Leicester since 2017 and earned almost 200 Premier League appearances before their relegation at the end of last season.
He helped the Foxes win the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield in 2021.
