Transfer: Manchester City reach agreement to sign Nunes

Reports on Wednesday indicate that Manchester City has informally agreed with Wolves on a transfer fee for Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Sources state that the Premier League champions have come to an agreement to pay Wolves a sum of £47 million ($60 million) for the player, excluding any additional clauses. However, the deal is yet to be formally concluded.

City’s 21-year-old midfielder, Tommy Doyle, is set to join Wolves on loan, with an option for Wolves to make the move permanent.

City’s initial offer for Nunes was turned down. Subsequently, the 25-year-old opted not to participate in training with Wolves, aiming to accelerate the transfer process as the transfer window nears its closing days.

After their 5-0 victory over Blackpool in the League Cup on Tuesday, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil expressed unawareness of any enhanced bid from City. He anticipated Nunes would remain with the team beyond the upcoming Friday deadline. However, this situation has rapidly evolved.

Nunes originally became Wolves’ record signing when he transferred from Sporting Lisbon for an initial fee of £38 million last year. Throughout the previous season, he made 34 appearances in the Premier League, contributing a solitary goal.
