Manchester United have officially unveiled the signing of Irene Guerrero, a Spanish Women’s World Cup champion, on the final day of the transfer window.
Guerrero who played a crucial role in Spain’s victory over England in the World Cup final this summer, has previously represented Real Betis and Levante.
She said: “I feel very happy and very privileged to be here.
“I am very proud to be part of the Manchester United family and look forward to achieving all our goals together.”
In the Women’s Super League title race last season, Manchester United narrowly missed out on the championship by just two points behind Chelsea.
Manager Marc Skinner is thrilled to secure a player with such an impressive pedigree.
He said: “Irene is a World Cup winner whose quality is an excellent addition to our team.
“The experience she brings, both domestically and internationally, will be key as we pursue success across the multiple competitions we face this season.
“We are delighted to bring a player of Irene’s stature to Manchester United.”
United’s head of women’s football Polly Bancroft was equally thrilled to get the club’s new recruit over the line.
She said: “Irene’s signing is the latest example of the ambition of Manchester United.
“We cannot wait to see her pull on our famous red shirt and entertain our magnificent fans, at home and in Europe.”
