Transfer: Mixed reactions as Manchester United eye move for Osimhen

Manchester United’s reported pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has ignited excitement among fans, with the club exploring a potential swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee.

The 25-year-old Nigerian forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been in sensational form this season, scoring eight goals and registering four assists in just nine appearances for the Turkish giants during the 2024/25 campaign.

Italian journalist Gerardo Fasano has revealed that United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, is eager to bring the former Lille star to Old Trafford. As part of the deal, Joshua Zirkzee, who has struggled for form, could be offered as a makeweight in the negotiations.

“Manchester United is said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen. I’ve heard that the English side, through Ruben Amorim, could include former Bologna striker Zirkzee in talks for Osimhen,” Fasano told Area Napoli.

The speculation has sparked a frenzy among United supporters, with many flooding social media platform X to share their excitement at the prospect of signing the prolific Nigerian striker.

“I want Victor Osimhen in Man United,” Akan Imoh wrote enthusiastically.

Another fan, @bennimxUTD, believes Osimhen’s arrival could boost United’s title chances, writing, “Beautiful. Bring him, he will make us the title contender.”

A fan, @groovymono, who revealed he had wanted Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres at United, called Osimhen his dream signing.

“I know I’ve been singing Gyokores praises lately but Osimhen is and still remains my dream striker for Man United,” he wrote.

“Hojlund can become like Gyokores if he trains hard plus they even have the same physical features. But you see Osimhen, he has no replica.”

@zadde_yo was hopeful about the transfer materialising, writing, “Osimhen to United, God make this a reality.”

Another supporter, @Qamarul_Mohd, simply stated, “Victor Osimhen should join Man United.”

The Nigeria international has impressed since joining Napoli, recording 76 goals and 18 assists in 133 appearances for the Italian side.

United’s current strikers have struggled this season, with Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund managing just three goals between them in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Osimhen, who has a contract with Napoli until 2026, while he previously rejected moves to Saudi Arabia in favour of remaining in European football.
