Tribunal judgement: Wike attacks Peter Obi
Nyesom Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, has strongly criticized Mr. Peter Obi for his rejection of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s judgment. Wike challenged Obi to publicly disclose whether he paid any bribes to regain his mandate in a previous court case when he was removed as the governor of Anambra State.
Wike’s remarks were made during an appearance on Channels TV, where he addressed the recent decision by the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, to reject the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the victory of Bola Tinubu.
Drawing attention to Peter Obi’s past experience, Wike asked whether Obi had forgotten how he successfully appealed to the Supreme Court to reclaim his governorship position after being removed. He pressed Obi to clarify whether any bribes were involved during that legal process.
Wike emphasized the importance of respecting judicial decisions and highlighted the apparent inconsistency in attitudes toward the judiciary depending on whether the outcome aligns with one’s interests. He called for a consistent and unwavering trust in the judicial system, even in the face of disagreements with specific judgments.
Did Peter Obi not win at the Supreme Court when he was removed as governor? Did he pay bribe? Let him tell the world now,” Wike said.
“When he was removed as a governor, did he not reclaim his mandate at the Supreme Court?
“Judiciary was right but now that the decision happened, judiciary is wrong.”
