The petition against the victory of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, filed by Sa’idu Umar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 election, has been rejected by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Governor Aliyu, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, was officially declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, Umar contested the victory citing concerns about Aliyu’s deputy’s qualifications and electoral misconduct.
The three-member panel headed by Justice Huruna Mshelia determined that the petitioner could not substantiate the allegations with sufficient evidence. Further details will be provided later.
