The Sokoto State Election Petition Tribunal has confirmed the election victory of Aminu Tambuwal, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Senator for Sokoto South Senatorial District.
Abdullahi Danbaba, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC), had filed a petition challenging Tambuwal’s victory. He sought to have the Tribunal declare the election inconclusive, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act. Additionally, Danbaba requested a re-election in 28 polling units where he alleged no voting occurred during both the February and April substantive and supplementary polls.
However, the Tribunal, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the petition for lacking merit, as it presented unreliable documents and evidence. The Tribunal also ordered the payment of a N200,000 cost to both the first and second respondents, namely, the PDP and Aminu Tambuwal.
Aminu Tambuwal, a two-term former governor of Sokoto State, secured victory with a total of 100,860 votes, defeating his closest rival, Danbaba, who garnered 95,884 votes, with a margin of 4,976 votes.
