Troops apprehended three soldiers for 374 ammunition rounds theft

Troops of Operation Desert Sanity in Maiduguri, Borno State, have apprehended three soldiers for allegedly stealing ammunition.

The arrests transpired during a covert operation conducted at the motor parks along Njimtilo Road in Maiduguri.

According to a military source, two of the implicated soldiers were on their way to Markudi, while the third was traveling to Abuja.

Shockingly, one of the soldiers had hidden the stolen ammunition within a bag of rice.

The source disclosed, “On December 2, during covert operations at motor parks and along Njimtilo Road at Njimtilo, three soldiers were arrested. One was en route to Makurdi with 250 rounds of 7.62 MM.”

Providing further details, the source added, “Another soldier, en route to Makurdi, was arrested with four fully-loaded magazines and 110 rounds concealed in a mudu of rice.

The last soldier was heading to Abuja and was apprehended with 14 rounds of 7.62MM. The suspects are currently in custody, pending further investigation.”

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, could not be reached for comment as calls to his line were not answered. He had also yet to respond to a message sent to him on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
