Troops nab suspected gunrunner, recover weapon in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, part of Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a fabricated submachine gun in Taraba State.

The suspect, Alhaji Adamu Usman, was apprehended on January 13, 2025, in Gassol Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.

Captain Oni Olubodunde, the acting spokesperson for the brigade, confirmed the raid was conducted in Maraban Gassol, where the troops found the submachine gun, believed to be tied to arms trafficking activities.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to fighting illegal arms trade and ensuring peace in Taraba. He encouraged the public to provide valuable information to security agencies.
