Troops of the 1 Brigade under Operation FANSAN YANMA have repelled a terrorist attack and neutralised a suspected terrorist during a follow-up operation in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Military sources said the troops acted swiftly after receiving intelligence reports of terrorist activities in Kanoma District at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The troops immediately deployed to the area and engaged the attackers at Kanoma Hill in a fierce gun battle. The terrorists, however, failed to withstand the troops’ superior firepower and fled the scene.

Following the successful engagement, the troops launched a pursuit operation around Kanoma Hill. During the operation, they intercepted suspected terrorists riding on two motorcycles.

The troops engaged the suspects, killing one of them, while others escaped into the surrounding area.

Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine containing four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

Military authorities confirmed that no soldier sustained injuries or lost his life during the operation.

The latest success forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat terrorism and restore peace in Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West region.
