Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has shared his thoughts on the team’s draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time African champions have been placed in Group C alongside Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles, Uganda’s Cranes, and Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.
Troost-Ekong emphasized that the Super Eagles will not underestimate any of their group opponents.
The experienced centre-back also expressed confidence in the team’s quality and ability to triumph over their rivals to claim the coveted title.
“AFCON 2025 draw is now over, very exciting to see the groups. Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. Three teams that needs to be respected,” Troost-Ekong told the Super Eagles media.
“I think we have the experience now on how to handle situation like this. There are no easy games again in Africa. That’s a common knowledge now.
” However, I believe we have what it takes to come out of this group and this time go all the way. We learnt so much last year from the AFCON in Abidjan.
“This time, we will be more ready and work hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready.
“We are looking forward to playing under the new coach. Exciting year ahead , and I’m very happy with the AFCON draw.”
The Super Eagles will begin their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a match against Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Fès on Tuesday, December 23.
In their second group match, they will face Tunisia at the same venue just four days later.
The Super Eagles’ final group game will also take place at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, where they will play Uganda on Tuesday, December 30.
