A fully loaded truck with registration number GGE 624 YJ lost control and plunged off the Pen Cinema Bridge in Lagos on Saturday, crushing two commercial buses and leaving the driver critically injured.
In a statement, Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed that the driver suffered fractures in both hands.
LASTMA operatives quickly rescued him from the wreckage and rushed him to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver lost control while navigating the bridge, causing the heavy vehicle to tumble off and land on two stationary Volkswagen commercial buses beneath it.
“LASTMA officers, responding swiftly, extricated the severely injured driver and handed him over to officers from the Elere Police Division before he was taken to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo,” the statement read.
To prevent further incidents, LASTMA personnel immediately cordoned off the area and diverted traffic. Meanwhile, operatives from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) cleared the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow.
