United States Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off the stage during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday after what sounded like gunshots were heard.
The Secret Service promptly took action, ensuring President Trump’s safety by escorting him off the stage.
In a statement regarding the incident, Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, reassured the public that the former President is unharmed. “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow,” Cheung stated.
Anthony Guglielmi, the US Secret Service chief of communications, confirmed Trump’s safety following the incident. “An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures, and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation, and further information will be released when available,” Guglielmi said in a statement.
According to CNN, pool reporters at the Butler rally described hearing “a series of loud explosions or loud bangs” before Secret Service agents moved swiftly towards Trump. “The Secret Service immediately covered President Trump,” the pool report noted, adding that they heard additional bangs afterward. “Agents grabbed Trump, who was seen waving his fists in the air,” the report added.
