Trump pardons rappers Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, 121 others

American rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, were among 123 persons granted pardons as part of a last-minute spree that saw President Donald Trump issue clemency to many political allies on his final full day in office. Also pardoned in the entertainment sphere was Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris.

Wayne pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon last year, while Kodak Black was charged with falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms.

Trump granted pardons to 73 individuals and commuted the sentences of an additional 70 individuals.

Also famous among them are Trump’ longtime political ally, and former aide Steve Bannon and major Republican Party fundraiser Elliott Broidy.

Bradford Cohen, the attorney for both rappers, confirmed to Rolling Stone that both rappers were granted clemency. “President Trump and his administration have been tireless advocates on behalf of the African-American community,” Cohen tells Rolling Stone. “These pardons are a perfect example of this administration following up on its reforms and commitments.”

Harris, 59, was granted clemency Tuesday after Snoop Dogg worked with activists to advocate for the record label co-founder, according to the Daily Beast. The publication spoke with Alice Marie Johnson — the criminal justice reform activist whose life sentence was commuted by Trump in 2018 at the urging of Kim Kardashian West, among others — who said she had spoken with senior advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner about Harris, who has served nearly 30 years on attempted murder and drug-trafficking charges.

Harris, whose sentence was supposed to last through late 2028, helped finance the storied (and now defunct) West Coast label known for signing Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

Despite speculation, the list did not include the subject of the Netflix series “Tiger King”, Joe Exotic, who is serving a 22-year prison sentence for plotting to kill a rival and animal cruelty.
