The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the mysterious disappearance of a 49-year-old mechanic, Edward Onalise, in Benin City.
Onalise, known for repairing Mercedes Benz vehicles and also working as a commercial driver, was last seen on April 12, 2025. He reportedly went missing after being hired by an unknown individual to transport a refrigerator to the Obazangbo community.
Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, told reporters on Tuesday that two suspects — Ekundayo Ohimaye and Okuze Saturday — have been apprehended.
Yamu said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Onalise’s disappearance.
“The case is under investigation, and we will keep the public informed as it progresses,” Yamu stated.
Sources revealed that Onalise’s wife, Charity, became alarmed when her husband failed to return home and his phone remained switched off. She informed his family, who then reported the matter to the police.
After weeks of searching, the victim’s vehicle was discovered on May 25, 2025, at a residence in the Obazangbo community. The discovery led to the arrest of Ekundayo Ohimaye, who claimed to have bought the car from Okuze Saturday.
A subsequent search of Saturday’s home reportedly led to the recovery of Onalise’s personal items, including his mobile phone, radio, slippers, and two SIM cards.
Investigations are ongoing.
