The Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal on Monday began the hearing of charges of alleged negligence against two medical doctors – Adeshina Jenrola, a consultant plastic surgeon, and Silas Ochejele, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist – at Madonna Hospital in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The two doctors were allegedly negligent in managing a woman, Rebecca Olatunbosun, in removing a fibroid from her womb.
It was learnt that due to the doctors’ negligence, there were complications with blood transfusion, which led to the amputation of the patient’s left wrist.
Addressing reporters in Abuja, prosecution lawyer Sanusi Musa said: “Most of the charges have to do with the issue of a patient who went for a procedure to remove fibroid. But she eventually ended up with her hand amputated.”
Jenrola pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
His lawyer, Tarkaa Akula, said: “I believe that the prosecution cannot prove its case because from the papers, there is nothing implicating my client.”
