Two hacked to death by herdsmen as Benue bleeds again

Suspected armed herdsmen, Thursday night, reportedly ambushed and killed two travelers on a motorbike close to Mbazar community between Anyiin and Akwana in Logo local government area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the attack also left two others with serious injuries.

The area has been deserted.

According to a resident, “the attack took place at about 5pm when most farmers were returning from their farms. Unknown to the victims, the armed herdsmen had mounted a road block on the road waiting for the unsuspecting victims.

“Unfortunately, the two persons they killed, Timbee Tyovenda who hails from Tse-Jogunó village and Mr. Agule Ter from Tse-Getim both of Tombo ward in Logo Logo local government area were coming from Ayilamo on a motorbike when they were both gunned down.

“From what we learnt, the both of them were returning from where they had earlier visited some of their displaced relatives who were taking refuge at Ayilamo community.”

Chairman of Logo local government area, Mr. Richard Nyajo, who confirmed the latest attack, said it took place close to an abandoned Mobile Police Barracks project in Logo local government.

“Two persons were killed while two others were injured. The attackers mounted a road block on the road and the victims who were unaware of their presence ran into the ambush on a motorbike.

“The armed herdsmen opened fire on them, killing the two victims while two others sustained serious injuries.

“Immediately we heard of the attack, we alerted the Mobile Police Special Force who moved into the area and recovered the corpses of the victims and deposited same at the mortuary while the injured were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“Though we have many operatives in that area, but these marauders sneaked in to attack the people. The incident took place close to an uncompleted Mobile Police Barracks project in the Logo.

“There is a route from that axis close to the River Benue, they move into our communities from that route. They come from the riverside, hide there, attack and pull out in a commando fashion.

“We have also cautioned motorists, motorbike riders and farmers against plying that road at odd hours to avoid this type of unfortunate incidents.

“Security personnel have promised to embark on intensive patrols of the area to avoid a reoccurrence,” he said.
