Two children bought in Jos, the Plateau State capital, for N140,000 have been recovered by police in Lagos while being shipped to Onitsha, Anambra State.
Six-year-old Joshua James and three-year-old Samuel Gbawune were recovered from a woman Blessing Chuwkwunonso, 30, a resident of 23, Masebinu Street, Igbede, Ojo.
It was gathered that the suspect was intercepted along Alaba International Market Road where she had put the kids on board an Onitsha-bound bus around 8:30pm on October 31.
Mrs. Chukwunonso, according to the police, claimed that her husband Happiness Chuwkwunonso, 40, adopted the children from an orphanage in Jos and she was taking them to Onitsha to meet him.
It was further gathered that some detectives were assigned to follow her to Onitsha where her husband was also arrested on Friday morning.
Police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said the woman’s husband admitted buying the children for N140,000 from one Mama Oyoo at Jos Township.
“The kids were recovered from the couple. Efforts are emplaced to identify their parents and reunite them. Motor park operators, unions and well-meaning Nigerians are enjoined to report passengers with kids that appear suspicious,” he said.
Elkana said the command also arrested two fake Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives Victor, 45, and Emeka Ewuzien, 45, at Ifako while on their way to make an arrest at Bakare Daudu Market.
