Two persons have been reportedly killed while several others were injured in a clash between the State Joint Security Taskforce code-named Operation Burst and the youth of Iluju village in Orire local government area of Oyo State on Sunday evening.
The fights started when the suspected youth of the village resisted security operatives’ attempt to arrest one Abiodun who is being alleged of public disturbance.
An eyewitness acçount disclosed that men of Operation Burst came into the town in response to a distress call by unidentified villagers over the inglorious act of the said suspect.
Men of Operation Burst arrived in the town in their Patrol van and launched a manhunt for the suspect.
It was gathered that while the operation was going on, the suspect youth mobilized themselves to shield the suspect from being caught up with a long arm of the law.
The resistance put up by the youth, as reliably gathered led to the death of two persons.
Unconfirmed reports confirmed the identities of the victims as a soldier and civilian
Also, it was gathered that the Patrol van of Operation Burst was vandalized during the attack.
However, it could not be ascertained whether was an exchange of gunshots between the security operatives and the youth
As at the time of filing these reports, it was gathered that normalcy has returned to the town, as villagers are now going about their lawful businesses unhindered.
Meanwhile, the Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso in a text message to our correspondent disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko has ordered a full-scale investigation.
The text read, “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command CP Ngozi Onadeko FDC has ordered a full-scale investigation into the root cause of the incident.”
