Two men were on Thursday remanded in prison by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl to coma in Benue State.
The accused identified as Anselem Onyekachi and Aseer Anyo, both of New Road, Gboko North area of Benue, are being tried for rape.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkarim Abubakar, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Gboko, to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Makurdi, on June 20.
Abubakar said Imoter Asalumun of New Road, Gboko North, had on June 9, reported the case via a letter dated June 19, at the ‘A’ Division Police Station that his 13-year-old sister was raped.
He said the complainant had noticed that his sister on that fateful day, could not walk properly.
He said, “On inquiry, the victim said she had been raped by their neighbours (the accused).”
According to Abubakar, the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue 2004.
The Magistrate, Mrs Regina Ochokwunu, in her ruling, said she granted the prosecution’s request for their remand to enable it conclude investigations on the case.
She adjoured the case until July 23 for hearing.
