The leader of the Biafra Nations League (BnL), Princewill Richards, yesterday, said an explosion rocked a Cameroonian military checkpoint in Isangele in the Bakassi Peninsula area, killing two soldiers.

Richards said the attack occurred hours after local Cameroonian authorities restricted cross-border movement in Bakassi.

The attack, according to BnL, was carried out by a militant group, known as the Black Marine, a suspected armed wing of Nigerian separatist BnL group.

The group captured a Camerounian military gun boat in Archibong Town, Isangele Sub-division of Bakassi, where the separatist fighters were reportedly engaged in fierce gun battle with the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (French acronym ‘BIR’).

BnL said the separatist militants, on Friday evening, stormed the town with three speed boats targeting the military gun boat stationed at main borders with Nigeria at Archibong Town.

The group said two soldiers were said to have been hit by Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and they died instantly. Sources said the militants fled when BIR returned fire.

Meanwhile, the group said, on Tuesday, the Nigeria Police and Army ransacked Ikang, Ekpri Ikang and Idebe axis of Bakassi Local Council of Cross River State in what appeared to be a haunt for the BnL members in the region.

The Deputy leader of BnL, Ebuta Takon ,in a statement, warned against any attempt to arrest its leader, Princewill Richards, who was said to have been smuggled into the Peninsula by the suspected militants.
