Two teenagers arrested for phone snatching in Yola

Two teenage boys who forcibly took a phone from a female passerby found themselves apprehended by vigilant neighbours and subsequently handed over to the local police in Yola, Adamawa State.

The incident occurred when 15-year-old Suleiman Shuaibu and 14-year-old Abdulazeez Sani, both believed to be associated with a local youth criminal group referred to as “Shila Boys,” targeted their victim near the Jimeta Modern Market in Yola North Local Government Area. Armed with a knife, they threatened the woman and demanded her belongings, ultimately taking her phone.

Witnesses recounted that the boys accosted the woman as she was walking along the street. When she informed them that she had nothing to offer, they forcibly took her bag, conducted a search, and confiscated her handset. Fortunately, alert bystanders intervened and prevented their escape.

Abdulazeez reportedly obtained the knife they used from his grandfather. Following their detention on Monday, October 9, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the two teenagers. They will now face legal proceedings, as assured by Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Adamawa State.
