Tyla reveals why she loves asake

South African vocalist Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, has shed light on her admiration for Nigerian singer Asake, elucidating the reasons behind her appreciation.

During a recent interview with RollingStone, Tyla shared insights into the inspiration behind her widely acclaimed track ‘Water.’ She expressed her admiration for Asake’s use of “choir vocals,” describing it as a significant influence on her work.

Tyla explained that her song ‘Water’ draws inspiration from Amapiano, a music genre originating in her home country, as well as her childhood influences in R&B and the vibrant sounds of Nigeria’s Afrobeats.

She stated, “Amapiano music is the core of it [‘Water’], in my opinion. And just all of the influences from growing up like Rihanna and all the R&B girlies, R&B boys, pop girls. That type of influence, I love bringing into my music.”

Tyla expressed a particular fondness for the choir-like vocals in Afrobeats music, citing Asake as an artist who skillfully incorporates this element. She highlighted her incorporation of this style in the chorus of ‘Water,’ which has resonated with listeners, creating a memorable and catchy experience.
