United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, in partnership with Mastercard, has launched a special debit card to mark UBA’s 75th anniversary. This new initiative aims to celebrate UBA’s enduring customer relationships while offering exclusive benefits and discounts to enhance the banking experience.
At the unveiling, UBA’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted the card’s special perks, including a 25% discount on Jumia purchases and $75 cashback on transactions made through AliExpress. He emphasized that the card is designed to reward customers and align with Mastercard’s vision to provide secure and convenient transactions across Africa.
“This card strengthens our partnership and reflects our shared mission to empower millions of Nigerians and Africans by offering secure financial solutions and new opportunities,” Alawuba stated. He also mentioned that UBA plans to introduce similar products across its subsidiaries in the near future.
Mark Elliott, Division President for Africa at Mastercard, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting its role in supporting Africa’s digital economy. “This commemorative card is more than a product; it’s a symbol of our commitment to advancing financial inclusion and providing accessible, secure financial solutions across Africa,” Elliott said. He also highlighted the potential of the African payment ecosystem and the opportunities that lie ahead for both UBA and Mastercard in promoting digital growth across the continent.
