UCL: Lookman returns to training ahead of crucial Brugge clash

Ademola Lookman and Sead Kolasinac have rejoined Atalanta training just in time for their crucial UEFA Champions League second-leg playoff against Club Brugge.

Their return provides a significant boost for Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, who are looking to overturn a 3-2 first-leg defeat and keep their European hopes alive. Giulia Mazzoleni of Eco di Bergamo confirmed that both players participated in Monday’s training session at Atalanta’s facility.

Atalanta’s form has been inconsistent in recent weeks. Once seen as Serie A title contenders, they have struggled since the winter break, crashing out of the Coppa Italia, dropping points in the league, and now facing a difficult European challenge.

Despite a 5-0 rout of Hellas Verona ten days ago, Atalanta followed up their first-leg loss in Belgium with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Cagliari at home. Meanwhile, Club Brugge have proven their strength in Europe, securing key results against Aston Villa, Sporting CP, and Juventus.

The first leg saw Brugge take an early lead through Ferran Jutgla, with Mario Pasalic equalizing before halftime. However, a last-minute penalty from Gustaf Nilsson secured a 3-2 victory for the Belgian side.

Atalanta remain concerned about injuries, with Kolasinac and Giorgio Scalvini still regaining full fitness. Lookman’s return from a knee injury is a welcome boost, but his match sharpness remains uncertain.

On the other hand, Club Brugge arrive in Bergamo with a full-strength squad, meaning they can field an unchanged lineup.

Atalanta have won just three of their last 13 matches across all competitions, putting their season at risk. However, with home advantage, they still have a chance to push the tie to extra time or even stage a comeback.
