UCL: Manchester City struggles continue with 3-3 draw vs Feyenoord
Manchester City were left stunned after squandering a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in their Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium, as their poor form continued.
Pep Guardiola’s side appeared in control early on, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and Ilkay Gundogan adding another, putting City firmly in the driving seat.
However, Feyenoord mounted a remarkable comeback to secure a point, much to the delight of their 5,000 traveling supporters.
The Dutch side capitalized on a mistake from Josko Gvardiol, allowing Anis Hadj Moussa to pull one back, before Santiago Gimenez leveled the score in the 82nd minute.
The equalizer set up a dramatic finish, and David Hancko sealed the comeback in the 89th minute, leaving Guardiola shaking his head in disbelief as some City fans booed at full-time.
Though City ended their five-match losing streak, they head into Sunday’s Premier League clash against title rivals Liverpool still searching for a win in their past six matches across all competitions.
While Feyenoord’s players celebrated their resilience, City were left to reflect on another disappointing performance.
In just four weeks, Guardiola’s side has suffered EFL Cup elimination, lost three consecutive Premier League games, and dropped five points in the Champions League group stages.
The match began with promise as Haaland converted a penalty after being fouled by Quinten Timber, and Gundogan’s deflected volley made it 2-0 just after half-time.
Haaland added a third early in the second half, but a careless pass from Gvardiol allowed Feyenoord to find a route back into the game.
City’s defensive frailties were evident once more, as they conceded two or more goals for the sixth consecutive match—something they haven’t done since May 1963.
With just seven points from five Champions League matches, City are now in 15th place in their group and could face an extra two play-off matches unless they reverse their form.
Their next fixtures include a trip to Juventus on December 11th, followed by an away game against Paris St-Germain on January 22nd, and a home clash with Club Brugge on January 29th.
