Arsenal legend Thierry Henry didn’t hold back in his assessment of two Gunners players, Gabriel Martinelli and Takehiro Tomiyasu, for their roles in the crucial goal during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg, resulting in a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Henry also expressed disappointment with Arsenal’s overall performance, stating that it fell short of expectations.
Bayern Munich secured victory over Mikel Arteta’s side at the Allianz Arena, advancing to the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win after a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Emirates Stadium.
“Today was not good enough I would say, but there was not much in the game. Both teams didn’t want to lose so they didn’t really go for it,” Henry told CBS Sports.
“There was a moment of bad decision, not only from [Gabriel] Martinelli but [Takehiro] Tomiyasu also, because he did not cover his centre-back for the cross or close that line.
“But you have asked me so many times, do I think Arsenal can win the Champions League? I say yes because I’m hoping and wishing.
“But if I take my Arsenal hat off when we play three games a week, we struggle.”
