UFC: Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman beats Gilbert Burns to retains welterweight champion

Kamaru Usman aka Nigerian Nightmare, on Saturday, defeated his challenger Gilbert Burns to retain his Welterweight title.

The clash which was officiated by Herb Dean, took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

With this win, Usman now has the longest winning streak in Welterweight history at 13 wins.

IDOMA VOICE observed that Gilbert Burns had most of the first round, but the second round became nightmarish for him as the Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman stage a sensational comeback to retain his Welterweight belt.

According to MMA Junkie; “Round 1 – Burns rushes out and fires a right hand that misses. He kicks to the body and then the leg. Burns clearly wants to be aggressive. Right hand over the top scores for Burns. Uppercut lands. Usman is in trouble. Burns swarms with a few more punches. Usman trying to shake it off. Usman catches a high kick and pushes Burns to the floor but doesn’t really want to follow. Burns kicks the legs from the bottom then leaps to the air with a little capoeira style. Usman punches the body and then kicks the legs. Referee Herb Dean tells him to work if he wants to stay here. Usman kicks the quads a bit more. He punches to the body twice. Burns finally pops up to his feet. Usman now trying to turn up the heat a bit. Burns with a stiff jab. Usman kicks the leg. Usman with a nice kick to the body. Burns to the body and then the leg. Right hand for Burns. Jab for Usman, but Burns answers with a right. One minute left in a heck of an opening round. Usman defends a takedown and blocks a high kick. Burns with a flurry of power punches to close. Tense. MMA Junkie gives the first to Burns, 10-9.”

But, at the end, the Nigerian spirit saw Kamaru Usman emerging stronger.
