Ugboju unrest: Police reveal reason for continuous killings in Idoma community
- Y Bawa, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Charge of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, has attributed the continuous killings and destruction of properties in Ugboju to lack of co-operation between residents, Police and other relevant security agencies.
Bawa, who received members of the Otukpo Legislative Assembly, who paid him a familiarisation visit in his office earlier while reacting to their plea on the need to strengthen security in Ugboju District of the local government, said “The people are not helping matters because they have refused to talk to us.
“Once you hear or get a report that someone or property has been destroyed and you react, the response you get is very discouraging. All you will hear from the people around or relatives is that, they don’t know those who are perpetrating these crimes. In no time, you will hear about a reprisal attack and those affected will also not want to co-operate too.
“The Police are not ghosts, when something happens, we need people to hint us at least to know how to come in and possibly bring the culprits to book. We need people to help us with information to enable us tackle insecurity. Without the co-operation of the people, there’s only little we can do about situations like that,” the DPO added.
The visit by the lawmakers was a follow up to the renewed killings of 3 persons bringing the total number of lives lost to over 140.
