Gentle, calm, and calculated – these are the qualities that perfectly describe Hon. Ugwu Ameh Odoh, the Benue State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change. While he may be a man of few words, his actions speak volumes.
When Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State introduced Ugwu Odoh as one of his commissioner nominees in August, the name may have been unfamiliar to many. This is hardly surprising, given Odoh’s preference for a quiet life and his belief in the age-old philosophy that actions speak louder than words.
Less than a week after assuming office, Odoh has not only hit the ground running but has also demonstrated to the people of Benue State that he is the right person for the job.
In a remarkable display of commitment and responsibility, Hon. Odoh Ameh Ugwu, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, wasted no time in getting down to business. He embarked on a series of significant activities that underscore his preparedness to tackle the challenges within his portfolio.
One of his earliest actions was issuing a flood warning alert and advising residents to relocate to safer areas.
Flooding has been a recurring issue in Benue, causing displacement and tragic loss of life. With the proactive steps taken by Odoh, there is hope that this problem will become a thing of the past.
Why is Ugwu Odoh off to such a promising start? It’s not surprising because, as the saying goes, a lion does not give birth to a goat. His father, the late elder statesman Chief Ameh Ebenezer Odoh, was the first representative of the Idoma nation in the National House of Assembly during the First Republic, and he was known for his outstanding performance.
Today, his son is presented with an opportunity, and he is proving to everyone that he can excel in it. His father would undoubtedly be proud.
As Ugwu Odoh continues in his role, it is imperative that the people of the state support him to succeed. While he has received well-deserved applause for his sterling performance so far, it’s essential that he remains vigilant and not be misled by those with ulterior motives.
Another critical aspect for Odoh to consider is how to benefit the Owukpa people by harnessing the resources of the Adu River in Owukpa. This could bring significant development to his hometown.
For now, Ugwu Odoh is on the right track and deserves a round of applause for his promising start.
