During the matriculation ceremony for the University of Ibadan’s newly-admitted students, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, conveyed a clear message: the students have every opportunity to excel academically, and they are expected to adhere to the university’s rules.
A total of 3,792 students from various faculties were cleared for the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony. Led by the Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, these students took the matriculation oath.
Professor Adebowale, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, emphasized that the university is a place of freedom, but this freedom is guided by rules. He encouraged the students to exercise their newfound freedom responsibly while at the university.
In his address, he reminded them that at the university, no one would wake them up in the morning to attend classes. However, he cautioned that established rules govern engagements within the institution.
Adebowale urged the students to familiarize themselves with these rules and make every effort to abide by them, thereby staying on the right side of the law. He stressed, “You have no excuse not to read and make good grades.”
He also highlighted the role of the Students Disciplinary Committee, stating that it serves as the university’s means of addressing and sanctioning those found guilty of misconduct. The committee will take action against anyone who violates the rules of the institution.
