The Federal Ministry of Education has formally addressed the suspension of Prof. Innocent A.O. Ujah as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State.
In a letter dated November 4, 2024, the Ministry requested the university’s governing council to reinstate Prof. Ujah before the effective date of his retirement on November 6, 2024, following his suspension.
The letter, which was also copied to Prof. Ujah, emphasized the need for a smooth transition of responsibilities.
It refers to a prior communication from the National Universities Commission (NUC) dated October 27, 2024, in response to a petition submitted by Prof. Ujah.
The NUC also instructed him to facilitate the handover to the Senate-approved nominee in an acting capacity to ensure administrative stability and compliance with established protocols.
The Ministry’s communication stressed the importance of adhering to due process during this transition and underscores the need to begin the appointment process for a new substantive Vice-Chancellor promptly.
Dr. Nesir Chinedu, the signatory of the letter, expressed the Ministry’s hope for cooperation from Prof. Ujah and the university council to maintain a peaceful and orderly administration at FUHSO.
