Following the suspension of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar due to allegations of highhandedness and sexual harassment of female students, Dr. Rose Ugbe has been chosen to serve as the acting Dean.
Dr. Ugbe’s appointment, as confirmed by a statement from the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, became effective on Tuesday, August 22. She will fulfill the role until a permanent Dean is elected for the faculty.
In her new capacity, Dr. Ugbe will assume the responsibilities and obligations associated with the position. Her duties will encompass overseeing academic programs, fostering positive relationships among both students and staff, and cultivating an enriching environment for teaching and learning within the faculty.
Furthermore, Dr. Ugbe is poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating faculty members’ research initiatives and collaborating with the University’s administration to translate its vision into reality.
The appointment of Dr. Ugbe has been endorsed by Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar.
The suspension of Prof. Ndifon stemmed from allegations that encompassed inappropriate behavior towards female students, among other irregularities. As part of the institution’s response, a seven-member panel has been convened to investigate these allegations.
