The Catholic Diocese of Wukari has officially verified the abduction of one of its priests. Identified as Rev. Father Thaddeus Tarhembe, the clergyman was taken captive during the early hours of Sunday.
This alarming event follows closely on the heels of the abduction of four individuals just two days ago in Pupule village within Yorro local government council.
The Director of Communication for the Catholic Diocese of Wukari, Rev. Fr. John Jerome Laikei, issued a statement confirming the priest’s abduction. The statement revealed that the abduction occurred at the Rev. Father’s rectory at St. Ann’s Parish, Sarkin Kudu, where he was targeted by unidentified armed assailants.
The abducted priest serves at St. Ann’s Parish in Sarkin Kudu, located in the Ibi local government area of Taraba State. This unfortunate incident adds to the growing concerns surrounding the safety of Christian clerics in Taraba State, prompting the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State chapter, to recently raise alarm regarding their frequent abductions.
