Prof. Bem Anweh, A former Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was shot in by unknown gunmen in Gboko metropolis of Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State Saturday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 10am, at a petrol station near Gyado, a suburb in Gboko local government area.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue Command (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident but added that the police were yet to get full details of what transpired.
However, sources disclosed to newsmen that the gunmen caused panic at the scene of the operation as they shot sporadically into the air.
It was further gathered that the gunmen left the scene immediately after carrying out the attack on Anweh, who was immediately taken to a hospital in Gboko, and later moved to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.
