The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr. Benson Abounu has sympathized with Fulanis over the killing of an elderly Fulani man identified as Mohammed Isa in Ekile Ward of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State. He has also said, the Ado Local Government Chairman, Hon. James Oche is excellent in handling security situations under his domain.
Engr Abounu who stated this yesterday in Makurdi during a meeting with leaders of the Fulani communities, traditional rulers and members of the local government executive council as well as political leaders from the area emphasized that while one of the suspects has been caught, the two other perpetrators of the dastardly act will be fished and brought to book at all cost.
Brother of the deceased, Yakubu Mohammed lamented the hardship occasioned his brother’s family of over 20 persons and sued for government’s support while on his part, the Ardo of Fulani promised to investigate and bring out those among the Fulanis involved in acts of criminality. They further appreciated the commitment shown by the Ado Chairman and the Benue State Government.
James Oche, the Ado Local Government Chairman yesterday received encomium from nearly all speakers, the bereaved Fulanis inclusive, for being proactive to security concerns within his domain. The Deputy Governor yesterday described his efforts in security in these words, “the chairman, Hon James Oche is excellent in his handling of security and surveillance issues”
In his reaction, the chairman gave appreciation to His Excellency Governor Samuel Ortom and the Deputy Governor Engr Benson Abounu for their tireless disposition to the Ado Security concerns. He described the meeting with the Deputy Governor as being timely and helpful in calming nerves and soothing emotions.
Mr. Oche explained further that, the arrest of the first suspect came after series of meetings within the local government and high profile intelligence gathering from a combined team of policemen and the Nigeria Army Operation Whirlstroke. He said his administration was committed to doing even more in the protection of lives and properties.
The security meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of Ado local Government Council, Hon. James Oche; Hon. Agnes Uloko of the Benue State House of Assembly; Chief Ogenyi Ocheme, Third Class Chief and the District Head of Ijigban Chief Christopher Onumah.
Others were Ward Head of Apa, Chief Moses Obande; Ward Head of Ekile, Chief Ochapa Emeruwa; SSA to the Governor, Hon. Andrew Ugballa; leader of Ado legislative House and councilors as well as leaders of the Fulani community in Ado and Otukpo local government areas.
