The United States Department of State has revoked visas belonging to more than 80,000 individuals, including Nigerians and citizens of several other countries.

In a statement released on Thursday, the department said the move reflects former President Donald Trump’s pledge to protect American interests and security, calling it a case of “promises made, promises kept.”

The revocations were reportedly linked to offenses such as assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI). Data from 2024 indicated that 16,000 individuals were penalized for DUI, 12,000 for assault, and 8,000 for theft.

The department also cited additional reasons for visa cancellations, including connections to terrorism, support for extremist activities, public safety risks, and overstaying visa terms.
