From what I have heard from several sources, the said family have been having conflicts frequently. Someone said both the husband and the wife have warned the neighbours to mind their businesses and never to intervene in their conflicts.
Someone even said that a neighbour who was stabbed by the wife when he went to separate their fight on one occasion reported to the police and the husband and the wife jointly told the police that the neighbour was trying to rape the wife and the wife stabbed him in safe defence.
The issue however is that in developed climes, q situation of violence in neighborhood could get the police alerted by 911 call. We don’t have such facilities in a modern city like Makurdi the state capital.
Even when you call the police on your GSM, they will make sure they ask you questions until you run out of airtime. Where the police respond positively, they will tell you their patrol vehicle has gone out, their is no fuel or the officer in charge of the vehicle is not around.
Situations like this therefore shows how empty we are as a people. All our leaders are interested in is building palatial houses and driving exotic cars.
The hungry masses are also more concerned about the much crumps they can get from the table of the rich. We don’t demand from our leaders things that are of communal benefits.
According to international policing standards, a street like Vandeikya Street is supposed to have police surveillance 24 hours so as to respond to situations like this promptly. Instead we have one idiotic politician alone having over 10 policemen guiding him and his family.
That is the price we pay when we collect peanuts and vote nonentities as our leaders.
As the 2019 general elections approaches, we have yet another opportunity to elect new leaders. If we want, let’s squander the opportunity once again.
