VeryDarkMan to appears in court today for unauthorised use of police uniform

Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan or VDM, is set to appear in court today on charges of impersonation.

The allegations arise from a viral video in which he was seen wearing Nigeria Police Force (NPF) uniforms without authorization. In the video, VDM referred to himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” and claimed to be Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”

The Nigeria Police Force condemned the video in a post on X, noting that the FCT Police Command is leading the prosecution. The NPF emphasized its commitment to preserving the integrity of its symbols and preventing unauthorized usage of its uniforms.

The NPF’s statement read, “Martins Otse is set to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation related to the unauthorised use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video.

The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse. Interested persons are encouraged to follow up on the proceedings as the case unfolds.”

VDM was detained on Thursday after responding to an official police summons. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed his detention in a post on X, noting that VDM had responded to a similar invitation the previous day.

Adeyanju wrote, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
